It’s completely normal to feel unsure about what to wear or how to pose, so I’ve put together some simple guidelines to help you prepare. That said, every person and every session is unique, so if you have a different idea or want to do things your own way, go for it! The most important thing is that you feel comfortable and confident so we can capture you in an authentic and meaningful way.
Wear outfits that reflect your personality and style, but aim for a slightly dressed-up version of your everyday look.
Add visual interest with layers like jackets, scarves, jewelry, or textured fabrics like denim, linen, or knits. These add dimension and depth to your images. Also, match your style to the environment for a cohesive look. And don’t forget to dress appropriately for the weather. Nothing ruins a session faster than being too cold or too hot!
Earth tones, soft pastels, jewel tones, or muted hues photograph beautifully. Avoid overly bright neons or distracting logos. If you’re doing a group session (family, couples, etc.), coordinate without matching - think complementary colors and textures, not identical outfits.
I’ll guide you through natural, flattering poses, so you won’t need to worry about “what to do with your hands.” I work with each person to bring out authentic expressions and movement.
If there’s something meaningful to you—a guitar, a trumpet, a soccer ball, a favorite book—bring it along! Props like these not only add personality to your session but also help tell your unique story. They’re great for both posing and helping you feel more at ease.
If you’ve seen poses or photo styles you love on Pinterest, Instagram, or TikTok—save them! Bringing a few reference photos can be a great way to show me what you’re drawn to. We may not copy them exactly, but they’ll help us tailor the session to your style and comfort level. Whether it’s a dramatic silhouette, a goofy candid, or a sweet close-up, inspiration boards are always welcome!
